# Reading the three investigations together

Revision: October 14, 2026.

The three pages investigate a single problem in stages. How can created actuality come from God and genuinely belong to the creature? What further principles would establish simplicity, free creation, and non-receptive knowledge? How could that freedom have determinate intentional content while sustaining real creaturely action and fulfillment?

The revision draws on the supplied *Being-First and Measured Manifestation: Definitive Synthetic Edition* and *Working Philosophical Toolkit: Final*. These are constructive source manuscripts for this project. Using them does not convert their proposals into historical testimony or independently established metaphysical theorems. The existing source ledgers retain their consultation and edition qualifications.

## Five recurring questions

1. **Reality:** What differs, what realizes that difference, and what makes the subject one?
2. **Explanation:** What explains what, through which relation and in which respect?
3. **Possibility and agency:** What could genuinely differ, what makes alternatives fitting, and who directs the actual action?
4. **Disclosure:** What is expressed, what warrants knowledge of it, and how far does that warrant extend?
5. **Fulfillment:** What good is appropriate to the subject, what impedes it, and what would perfect it?

These are useful analytical jobs, not five demonstrated ontological primitives. The five families of symbols in Part I have a different purpose: they retain information needed by one conditional formal reconstruction. Sharing the number five establishes no identity between the toolkit and that model.

Keep the relation, respect, modal force, and warrant explicit. Causation, constitution, dependence, truthmaking, cognitive access, and intentional direction are different explanatory relations unless an argument establishes their reduction.

## Participation connects the questions

Participation is real, dependent possession of received actuality or perfection according to the participant's mode. Identify the recipient, what it possesses, its source, its mode, and the dependence. Receiving actuality does not turn the recipient into an appearance. Genuine possession does not make it independent.

Expression, agency, and finality require additional bridges. A received power can remain unexercised. An actual likeness can remain unrecognized. A subject's origin does not by itself establish its fitting end. The added principles explain how participation can become productive action, warranted disclosure, and fulfillment without building those conclusions into its definition.

## The major passages and their burdens

| Passage | Positive explanation | Indispensable addition | Strong rival or remaining burden |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Received actuality → creaturely possession | The perfection is actual in the recipient; dependence concerns its source. | A realist account of realization and the stated causal-dependence bridge. | An ontology in which creatures are merely appearances rather than distinct bearers. |
| Causation → expressive likeness | The effect's intelligible formation corresponds to positive content in its ultimate source. | Causal adequacy for independently identified perfection-content; exemplarism offers a richer account. | A productive source that causes cognition without intrinsically understanding. |
| Underivation → noncomposition | A whole cannot be absolutely underived if its constituents explain the actuality of that whole. | The independently interpreted constitution–dependence principle. | Brute composite unity, or a whole-priority ontology denying that proper constituents ground the whole’s actuality. |
| Negative simplicity exclusions → positive plenitude | An independently warranted perfection belongs without reception from a more basic actualizer. | Arguments establishing the positive perfections themselves. | A noncomposite but insufficiently characterized source. |
| Non-exhaustion → free creation | Complete goodness can be expressed without being repaired or completed by expression. | Genuine alternatives, rational agency, and voluntary control. | An inexhaustible source that necessarily produces one finite world. |
| Invariant intrinsic actuality → determinate intention | The proposed difference belongs to the complete intentional action toward understood content. | A defended relational ontology of actual intentional direction. | Different intrinsic intentions across alternatives without parts or temporal acquisition. |
| Intelligent production → knowledge of its effect | Awareness of actual execution and its assured efficacy discloses what that execution produces. | Adequate, warranted, non-receptive awareness of the actual action. | Knowing every possible plan without knowing which action actually occurs. |
| Sustained power → secondary agency | A creature exercises a productive power that remains dependent on its source. | The efficacy and authorship of the creature's own exercise. | Occasionalism: divine support replaces creaturely production. |
| Causal presence → knowledge of permitted choices | The proposed source has cognitive access to the choice as actually exercised. | A positive account of non-receptive cognitive access; foreknowledge requires a further account of eternity or another defended basis. | Causal support without cognitive acquaintance; no complete omniscience follows merely from presence. |
| Participation → communion | Distinct persons genuinely know and love, rather than merely share a cause. | Personal capacities, fitting ends, and, for supernatural communion, revelation and grace. | Dependence without recognition, love, or personal fulfillment. |

Nonconstitutive real distinctions remain outside the immediate scope of the noncomposition theorem. These are conditional arguments with identifiable work to do. A countermodel shows why a missing bridge matters; it does not show that every historical defense of that bridge fails. The computational witnesses test stated interpretations, not the philosophical truth of the whole ontology.

## A concrete test for finite goods

Ask what happens when the alleged limitation is removed.

- **Privation:** removing ignorance improves understanding.
- **Constitutive finite condition:** removing succession abolishes a melody rather than producing the same melody more perfectly.
- **Adverse occasion:** courage can be good in danger without making the danger good or justifying its manufacture.

This test supports positive analogy without transferring an entire creaturely mode into God. Grounding the good of learning does not require God to learn. It also protects moral seriousness: healing and forgiveness do not justify illness or injury. Fulfillment can remove defects while preserving the creature's identity and particular goods.

## Where revelation changes the warrant

The natural grammar is preparatory. It does not discover the Trinity, the Incarnation, sacramental institution, grace, or beatific vision by manipulating its symbols. Revealed personal origins are not creaturely reception; the Son's being from the Father does not make the divine essence received from a more basic actuality. The hypostatic union is not merely an intensified case of ordinary participation.

The manuscript's account of God as the All names plenitude considered as universal sourcehood, never God and creatures combined into a larger totality. It requires positive perfection and universal sourcehood as well as negative exclusions. The Pauline all-in-all is a further, revealed consummation. In 1 Corinthians 15:20–28, it belongs to resurrection, Christ's reign, the defeat of death, and the kingdom handed to the Father. This contextual account follows the supplied manuscript; it is not a newly verified translation or a metaphysical deduction from six simplicity arguments. The verse alone does not settle universal salvation.

The resulting positive thesis is: **creation can be fulfilled in God without completing God.** The creature's transformation is real; divine fullness is not assembled from that transformation. Immediate communion need not become exhaustive comprehension or absorption.

## What this development claims

The contribution is a coordinated explanation of possession, origin, intention, disclosure, and fulfillment. It neither claims an earned seventh proof of simplicity nor introduces a new primitive under a new name. Its Newman-like development test asks whether the synthesis preserves doctrine's governing type, conserves the earlier achievements, assimilates distinctions without hiding contradictions, and makes the sequence of arguments more intelligible. That is a methodological assessment, not ecclesial certification.

For each significant conclusion, retain four lines: the proposed explanation; its indispensable bridge; the strongest surviving rival; what remains to be established. This permits a positive metaphysical proposal to have explanatory power without treating its promise as a completed demonstration.
